NSE Holidays 2025: Will Stock Market Remain Closed on Wednesday, Check Full Holiday List

The Indian stock market, including both major exchanges — BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and NSE (National Stock Exchange) — will remain closed on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, on account of Diwali Balipratipada. After the brief Muhurat Trading session on October 21, normal market operations will resume from Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025 Highlights

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the Indian stock market opened for a special one-hour Muhurat Trading session, marking the beginning of the new Samvat year 2082 on a positive note. The BSE Sensex ended 62.97 points or 0.07% higher at 84,426.34, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed 25.45 points or 0.10% up at 25,868.60.

During the session, top gainers included Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Tata Motors. Among the top losers were Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank, HCL Technologies, Bharti Airtel, and Maruti Suzuki.

NSE Holidays in October 2025

The month of October 2025 featured three market holidays.

  • October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra
  • October 21 – Diwali Laxmi Pujan (only Muhurat Trading took place)
  • October 22 – Diwali Balipratipada (Full market holiday)

After this, trading activity will continue as usual until November, which has two more scheduled stock market holidays:

  • November 5 – Guru Nanak Jayanti
  • December 25 – Christmas

When Will NSE and BSE Reopen?

Both the NSE and BSE will reopen for regular trading on Thursday, October 23, 2025, after the Diwali holiday break. All segments, including equity, derivative, and commodity markets, will operate as usual.
